Why an Alliance

The founders of the Open Soccer Alliance intentionally chose the word “Alliance” to reflect the desired nature and vision of this entity.

OSA intends to unite likeminded clubs and leagues throughout the United States who share the desire to play soccer in an open system in the way the game is structured in the rest of the world.

The mission of OSA shares much of the new non-profit United Soccer America’s mission. USA is a partner of OSA and its mission is to unite and grow American soccer into the nation’s preeminent sport by championing the beautiful game’s universal principles of sporting merit, solidarity, promotion and relegation, and subsidiarity across all 50 states.

The key principle of OSA is to keep the decision making and controlling interest with the OSA member clubs. While the OSA will have its own amateur (OSA Elite Amateur) and professional (OSA Pro) leagues, it also hopes to build partnerships with existing leagues that share its values and vision. Those partnerships may be customized to include affiliation incentives, training compensation, solidarity payments, and cross scheduling for regular season, tournaments and playoffs, .

United in this alliance, OSA intends to grow the sport with existing open system amateur leagues to provide an affordable professional option and build a model that reflects the structure of the sport globally.

Alliance of Leagues:

  • Customized affiliations with like-valued open system amateur leagues offering mutual benefits
  • Compensation from OSA to affiliated leagues when amateur clubs join OSA Pro
  • Compensation from OSA to affiliated league clubs when amateur players join OSA Pro
  • Cross scheduling opportunities
  • Joint Leagues Cup opportunity
  • Champion of Champions Playoff
